UNDER THE SKY OF SEFARAD – Sephardic music


 
First I would like to invite you to watch a 7-minute film from some concerts of Sephardic music with the participation of different musicians:
 
XX CHANTERELLE Festival and JAZZ JAMBORE Festival (Poland), X INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF SEPHARDIC MUSIC in Cordoba (Spain), ANCIENT MUSIC FESTIVAL (Mexico), UNDER THE SKY OF SEPHARAD (Polish Radio).

SEPHARDIC SONGS PROGRAMS IN VARIOUS STYLES:

Arrangements of Sephardic songs for two guitars evoke the connections of this music with the culture of Spain. The songs will be performed with one or two guitars and a capella. Warm, sensual voice of the singer excellently matches the guitarist’s virtuosic playing and the main topic of the concert is love…

This program refers to the musical tradition of Medieval Spain as well as to the way of performing Sephardic music in the Arabic part of the Mediterranean Sea Basin. The instruments and arrangements of the musical pieces emphasize oriental influences in Sephardic music.

The program Dos Amantes refers to the roots of Sephardic music and shows its modern aspect as a still living tradition. The songs are performed in the original language of Sephardic Jews called ladino, but the instruments and arrangements refer also to Spanish, Arabic as well as Klezmer music.

Sephardic music, the music of Jews who lived on the Iberian Peninsula in the Middle Ages, comes from Spain - Sepharad as it was called in Hebrew. The choice of songs for the program IN THE WORLD OF SEPHARAD was made by the vocalist Anna Riveiro who is considered to be the master of Sephardic songs and called “the Polish voice of Sepharad („La voz polaca de Sefarad” - eSefarad.com).

The program refers to the way that Sephardic music was performed in some country's of the Mediterranean area and as well to the musical traditions of ancient Spain. The arangements of pieces emphasize oriental influences in Sephardic music.

Sephardic tradition in ethno-jazz.
In this new project, the artists show a surprising combination featuring traditional Sephardic songs and jazz sound as well as contemporary harmony and piano coloring.

In the program we will hear Sephardic songs in new, modern arrangements, which refer to the ethno-jazz trend. In the arrangement one can hear the mixture of different musical worlds: from ancient and ethno music through classical music till jazz and intuitive music.
